I haven’t watched any Marx Brothers movies since I was a kid, but if this movie, not even one of their so-called “hits,” is this goddamn hilarious, then I can’t imagine the Box of Rib Cramps their DVD collections must be. This doesn’t have anywhere near the cinematic goals of Keaton or Chaplin, and it’s not as satisfying in the end, but good lord are Groucho’s one-liners GOLD. Like the Stooges shorts, the studios leave plenty of room for useless subplots and even unbearable musical numbers, but when they let the stars out to play, it’s just way too enjoyable to call anything less than Amazing.
